<p>Hailing from the northern woods of Canada, <strong>Deer Man Of Dark Woods</strong> is a longtime friend of <strong>Emerica</strong> and a devoted disciple of barrier skateboarding. A blood member of the <strong>Barrier Kult</strong>, <strong>DMODW</strong> and The <strong>BA. KU</strong> are devoted to the skateboarding destruction of natural street barriers and the anti-conformist ideology it inherently represents in its sole dedication. <strong>DMODW</strong> and the <strong>BA. KU.</strong> Are 100% pure skateboarding.</p>
<p>During a vist to <strong>Emerica</strong> headquarters, <strong>Deer Man Of Dark Woods</strong> and <strong>Emerica</strong> embarked on a special collaborative effort to develop a limited-edition version of a favorite <strong>Emerica</strong> shoe with the <strong>BA. KU.</strong> to exact his specialized craft. The <strong>Emerica</strong> <a href="http://emericaskate.com/shoes/holiday-2008/francis-barrier-kult/"><strong>Francis Barrier Kult</strong></a> is the result.</p>

<p><em>The Outskirts of Awesome</em> is a rad new photo book by <em>Thrasher</em>'s Editor at Large and Photographer <strong>Michael Burnett</strong>, featuring snaps taken on trips to Europe, Russia, China and Skatopia in rural Ohio in Summer 2007. Although there are a few sweet skate shots, the subject matter is mostly comprised of all the other crazy stuff that happens in between the demos and filming missions. Random boob signings, ass grabs, public urination, cop confrontations, face-stuffing, product tosses, local culture and so much more--not to mention plenty of pyromania and stripper pole shenanigans at Skatopia. <p>On November 29, 2008 at 15:00, more than 20 skaters waited under the shadow of a tree for the <strong>Bus of Death</strong>. After an hour's drive, we arrived at the La Dehesa area to skate one of the most difficult and strange spots in Santiago, Chile, known affectionately as <strong>El Ditch</strong>. Skaters from various crews were already riding and waiting for the event to start. A small BBQ was crammed full of food and fired-up, and <strong>Red Bulls</strong> were cracked open.</p>
<p><a class="thickbox" rel="gallery" title="A crowd for fun." href="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/elditch-6.jpg"><img src="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/thumbs/elditch-6.jpg_550x365.jpg" width="130" height="130" alt="A crowd for fun." /></a> <a class="thickbox" rel="gallery" title="A nice, relaxing bert." href="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/elditch-2.jpg"><img src="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/thumbs/elditch-2.jpg_550x368.jpg" width="130" height="130" alt="A nice, relaxing bert." /></a> <a class="thickbox" rel="gallery" title="Panorama No. 1." href="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/elditch-15.jpg"><img src="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/thumbs/elditch-15.jpg_550x130.jpg" width="130" height="130" alt="Panorama No. 1." /></a> <a class="thickbox" rel="gallery" title="Lost in a sea of inflatables." href="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/elditch-12.jpg"><img src="http://emericaskate.com/content/news/thumbs/elditch-12.jpg_550x365.jpg" width="130" height="130" alt="Lost in a sea of inflatables." /></a></p>
<p>After three hours full of many tricks, slams, girls, families and good vibes, the winner of the Best Trick was crowned. <strong>Pato Vargas</strong> claimed it with a nice and smooth switch flip 360, a blunt slide frontside out and a pop shove-it 360. The second best trick, a nollie bigspin 540, was done by <strong>Stavros Razis</strong>. <strong>Gato Rodriguez</strong> and <strong>Mauricio Murci</strong> won Best Slam with some really heavy crashes. There was also a Best Photo event, which was won by <strong>Jorge Binder</strong>, who shot a sequence of a <strong>Pokemon</strong>-inspired fronside flip. Thanks to the judges, <strong>Pato Albornoz</strong> from <a href="http://www.latabla.cl"><strong>La Tabla</strong></a> and <strong>Diego Rojas</strong> from <a href="http://www.descaro.cl"><strong>Descaro</strong></a>.</p>

<p>Moreso than a normal contest, this session was the best way for everyone to determine the best trick in El Ditch, plus enjoy lots of music, food, drinks and friends. Thanks to everybody who helped fix the spot, and to the efforts of <strong>Red Bull</strong>, <strong>Gangsta Skateboards</strong>, <strong>Emerica</strong>, <strong>Zero</strong> and <strong>Destructo</strong> for helping put on a real event that represents the best of skateboarding in Chile.
