Matt Allen Wins Back to the Banks 2006!
This past Saturday, August 19, 2006, the Brooklyn Banks were officially destroyed! Aw, man…you know we don't mean that literally. Back to the Banks 2006 is over, and everyone killed it, to say the least. It’s hard to pinpoint individual stand-outs for the day since all of the skating was off the charts, but here are the highlights:
The day started out at the Bank-to-Double Ledge, where Zered “Dr. Z” Bassett killed it with a frontside 5-0 to backside revert. This competition was a close call, but Zered squeezed out a win after landing a frontside nose blunt slide across the top ledge.
From there, everyone moved to the Bank-to-Wall section. So many tricks went down there that I don’t know how the judges chose an individual winner, but Jimmy McDonald took it by busting out a backside nollie big spin to wall ride.
Next was the Brooklyn Banks Rail, where Ryan Bobier threw down a frontside blunt slide to fakie, and Jake Donnelly nailed a kickflip frontside boardslide. Since both of these tricks were huge hammers, they split $1000 cash.
The final obstacle was the Marble Kicker, where Colin Hale took the cash with a lofty nollie flip, among other tricks. It was a close call against Chris Mead’s bag of tricks, but the judges ended up awarding the prize to Colin.
The Overall Winner title was awarded to Emerica’s own Matt Allen. Not only was Matt the only skater to compete in every event, he also landed huge tricks at each section to keep a Back to the Banks win in Emerica's hands for two years in a row. (Brandon Westgate won in 2005.) Congrats, Matt
