The Emerica team holds a highly innovative, unconventional and illegal roving street jam / demo called Wild in the Streets throughout Manhattan, New York. Hundreds of kids from all over the Northeast show up to skate and rage through the city with the Emerica team, and the event also raises $1,400 for the recovery fund of injured skater and former Emerica rider John Cardiel.

The Emerica team embarks on extensive travels, including a jaunt throughout the Southeastern U.S. called the Dirty South Tour, nurtures the growth of skateboarding in exotic locales on a Panama / Costa Rica Tour, plus a trek of demos and street skating through France, Belgium and Holland and the V7 Teenage Tour Finale.

The Emerica team collects all of the most off-the-hook demo and tour footage from their year-long Kids in Emerica Tour and assembles it into the Kids In Emerica DVD, which makes its world premiere (along with Leo Romero’s Goin’ Pro party) at Pharmacy Boardshop headquarters in Victorville, California. Leo promptly follows it up with a 14-page Milestone in The Skateboard Mag.

The Emerica team barges an exclusive late-night after-hours session, under filmer lights only, at the then lightless Skatepark of Lake Forest, California. A special Emerica article in Skateboarder called “The Dark Side of Lake Forest”, featuring the stark black and white photography of Brian Gaberman, is the result.

Emerica launches Design-a-Tee, an ongoing T-shirt graphics contest held twice a year on its Web site to encourage kids to make creative, artistic contributions to the brand. At the end of each contest, three winning designs are chosen and used on actual Emerica T-shirts for sale in a subsequent apparel line. Design-a-Tee is just one of many ways in which kids can participate in the ever-evolving creation of Emerica.
